We all have a role to play in keeping our elections free and fair. Voting is the greatest power most Americans have and it is almost always a positive and rewarding experience. Yet, some voters will likely encounter challenges this November.

Local election officials work hard to make sure elections run smoothly, but they can’t do it alone. If voters keep informed, get involved, speak out and vote, they can have a huge impact in supporting our local election officials.

Unlike most of our resources, this pocket guide is also for individual voters, community members and American citizens, plus organizations that want to helps support elections and election workers while protecting the vote.

Pam Fessler was an editor and correspondent at NPR News for more than 28 years, covering voting issues, poverty and philanthropy. Today, Pam advises our team to help election officials improve their communications with the public. She developed this guide to provide concrete steps and resources for citizens to help protect the vote and support election officials.
