Most post-election audit reports are not exactly easy reading. These templates are designed to help jurisdictions prepare professionally designed audit reports that briefly highlight findings and clearly explain audit processes.

In a national survey, conducted between Oct. 25 and Nov. 4, 2024, our audit templates with visuals boosted participants’ confidence in elections. One key finding: Providing voters with information about audits increases trust and confidence in the audited election. Read about all the key findings of the national survey here. 

The templates frontload the most critical content for the public — the audit numbers and the audit process — on the first two pages. For readers who want to take a deeper dive, there are pages to explain the audit method in more detail, the history of audits and requirements in your jurisdiction and key takeaways, or what stood out as going particularly well and where there is room for improvement. There is also a glossary page and instructions for linking audit and election terms used in the report to their definitions. 

The templates use icons to depict audit process steps and key takeaways. The instructions include an icon library and information on changing their colors to match your jurisdiction’s requirements or branding.
