Election Workforce in Transition: Understanding Turnover and Retention

Turnover of local election officials rose to its highest rate ever recorded in 2024. Join The Elections Group and the Bipartisan Policy Center for the first in a series of webinars highlighting research funded through the Election Workforce Advisory Council that seeks to better understand and develop solutions to turnover and other challenges facing the election administration workforce.

Panelists share insights from new research examining the pressures, motivations, and experiences that shape whether election officials remain in their roles. Featured projects include research on resiliency and retention of local officials, the impact of hostility and threats, and the role workplace conditions and public service motivation play in turnover.

Join us for this timely discussion with researchers from American University, the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and the Bridging Divides Initiative.

Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the factors driving election workforce trends and ideas to strengthen support for election officials across the country.
